About me
Jaroslaw ("Jerry") Iwanus / Ярослав Іванус
Originally from Winnipeg, Manitoba and, after 40 years in Alberta, Jaroslaw (“Jerry”) Iwanus, a.k.a “The Prairie Maritimer” is proud to live au Coeur de l’Acadie, on the Northumberland coast in Pointe-Sapin, New Brunswick.
Jerry is a freelance writer who has done technical and expository writing for years and has recently added to his repertoire with poetry, essays, and reviews. He has eclectic writing interests, with particular focus on public policy in New Brunswick, the current situation in Ukraine, and the integration of Ukrainians into their new lives here in the Maritimes. He has a BA (Special) in history and an MA in Ukrainian history, both from the University of Alberta, and has served as a lecturer on Ukraine in the GNB Mosaïk program and in other public forums.
Jerry is also a retired Accredited Appraiser, Canadian Institute (AACI, P. App.) with 20 years of valuation experience in private, public, and quasi-judicial spheres in Alberta and New Brunswick. He has also served as Mayor of the Village of Bawlf, AB and on the University of Alberta Senate as a public member, as well as on numerous other boards and committees.
He can speak, read, and write in English, Ukrainian, and some French.
