Thanksgiving 2025. Wow, it feels like I just did my Thanksgiving 2024 post. I know that Earth is revolving around the sun at 107,000 km/h, but I swear it feels faster than that.
A couple of weeks ago, I posted about the little things I’m thankful for that provide us with a bulwark against the bigger, shittier stuff. Today, I’m making a list of all the big things I want to acknowledge and celebrate on Thanksgiving 2025.
- My immediate family. I won the lottery here (including even after divorce) – ‘nuff said.
- My extended family, on Michele’s side and on mine, in both Ukraine and the US. With the speed of communication these days, I’m pretty damn lucky to be able to stay in regular touch with the latter.
- All our friends, with special shout-out to those who’ve been able to come east and visit us.
- Our home. Flawed, but rife with sacred spaces, and overlooking the Atlantic.
- Our wonderful next-door neighbours and the welcoming community where we live.
- Our health. Not perfect for either of us, but better than for many others. I can still do things that others my age cannot.
- The freedom to read and write what I want, with no censor looking over my shoulder.
- The options we have (including my opportunity to write full-time), which many do not.
- That Ukraine is still here, more formidable than ever.
- That Canada is my home – strong, free, and sovereign, and that I’ve had the opportunity to live in three of her beautiful provinces.
And, on this Thanksgiving 2025, a massive extra thank you to everyone who continues to read my stuff. You make it worthwhile to do this every day.
