I was going through some of the papers I’d written in university and came across one I’d done in a senior Canadian history class taught by distinguished professor Lewis H. Thomas, who had also been Saskatchewan’s Provincial Archivist.
The 20-page paper was entitled, “The Consequences of Continental European Settlement in Canada.” I received only a 7+ (out of 9) mark, with Professor Lewis commenting, “This essay would have been greatly improved by discussing the Ukrainians, who were a distinctive group of major importance.”
OMG, how is it even possible that I had that much of a rectal-cranial inversion in university? Is that not the ultimate in irony, considering all the work I’ve done in that field over the years?
The best of the Easter weekend to everyone, regardless of whether you are religious and take meaning from it in that way or whether it is simply a welcome break from the demands of day-to-day life. As a dear friend said to me, “It’s a good day for reflection regardless.”
Perhaps some reflection on what the hell I was thinking when I wrote that paper may still be in order.
